Renewable Heat Incentive Consultation Event at the Centre for Alternative Technology

Wednesday 10 March 2010, note changed timing!

On 1st February 2010, the Government published a consultation on the proposed design of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, which it aims to introduce in April 2011.

The current proposal would offer very attractive incentives for renewable heat technologies such as biomass boilers, heat pumps or solar water heating systems. For example, a typical UK household which replaces a gas boiler with a wood pellet system would receive incentive payments of more than £1,000 every year, for 15 years. A solar water heating system would attract payments of around £400 per year, in addition to savings in gas or electricity. The scheme is set to significantly increase demand for renewable heating solutions.

Erich Scherer, Policy Manager for Renewable Heat Tariffs at the Department of Energy and Climate Change will attend a consultation event at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) to explain and discuss the proposed policy. This is an opportunity to not only learn about the RHI but also to give feedback and influence the final version of the scheme.

The consultation event will be head at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth on Wednesday, 10 March 2010. The information and discussion session is scheduled to take place between 12:30 and 15:30.
Lunch is available at the Centre's vegetarian restaurant from 12 noon on, and light refreshments will be served during the event. An optional guided tour of renewable heat technology installations at CAT will be available at 16:00.

The event is free of charge. Please contact the CAT Information Service (01654 705989, info@cat.org.uk) if you would like to attend, or if you have further questions.

See http://www.cat.org.uk/rhi-event/ for updates.
