Can any / all hydro bods come back to me with simple responses to the questions below. If you dont want to post the figues - PM me? We have been in discussions with the DECC - and they state that the FiTs payment is based on install cost ONLY (ignoring lifespan) - if so - then why has PV got 4 tiimes hydro - when a professional install is 100K+ easily.

So -

1) How much did your complete system actually cost?

2) If it had to be 'professionally installed' and use a turbine (not a waterwheel for my case) - roughly what would it cost?

3) What are you generating?

4) what would a 'profesisonal install' generate?

5) What is your payback / breakeven time under your current system?

6) What would be the equivilant under the FiTs scheme? (both the 9p transfer rate and the higher 19.9 etc rate)

You might want to read section 7.3 (hydro) of the Poyry report published by DECC as part of the FITs consultation.

http://www.decc.gov.uk/Media/viewfile.ashx?FilePath=Consultations\Renewable%20Electricity%20Financial%20Incentives\1_20090715135352_e_@@_RelateddocElementPoyryreportonquantitativeissuesinFITsdesignFINAL.pdf&filetype=4

The cost figures they quote there are based on very thin evidence.

Thin? understatment of the minute I feel! Thanks for the link - the Mrs was going to point me to it.

Love this one:-
For small systems, prices are highly site specific - and can vary from 3 to 10,000 £/kW - source - (16) based on "discussions with mill owners in the south west"

So - they asked a load of half p*ssed on cider mill owners (like me Smiley ) about ground works. They will probably have most of the works in place. Um - how is that supposed to cover the costs of hydro?Huh

ranting will ensue!
