New houses are insulated to much better standards but developers only aspire to meet building regs so no Huf Haus
from them.

The big problem now is that they get too hot in summer through solar gain and as no one ever opens a window, they have aircon as a retro fit and spin the meter to get the house cold enough to be able to get to sleep.

Seems like two steps back sometimes.

Then theres all those schools and sheltered housing blocks with their woodchip boilers.
Oddly, these things don't run themselves like a gas boiler and while they get the greeny points that get them planning approval, they seem to need a lot of management.
Ideal if that's your business but not so good for the inmates on a cold winters day ?
Not to worry, they all got leccy fan heaters issued the first time the auger blocked....

If every 'social' development has to have a woodchip boiler to get planning approval, theres going to be some supply and demand issues developing.  Bit like the cooking oil / lard situation perhaps ?
