Scottish Power is my supplier here is sunny Pembrokeshire so I thought it would be simplest to set up my FITs through them. They have a "MyPower" pack of forms including Ofgen registration etc which all seems fairly straightforward. My 1.4kWp system was commissioned on 21 Dec 2090 and forms went off that day.

Since then total silence. Mid Feb phone call to Scottish Power and was advised that person handling these things was due back from maternity leave the following week but they had all my paperwork so relax. An export meter would be fitted in due course - free of charge.

Mid March and still not a word so another phone call. Asked why I hadn't heard anything and was told that of course I had heard nothing, it was not 31st March stupid. They would ask for my meter readings on that day and everything would be OK. And export meters would no longer be fitted because the government was making them fit smart meters in a year or two. How would they know how much to pay me for my exports (since 21st Dec) and was told that was another department. I suggested that they would probably use a fixed percentage as do other companies and the lady said that this was a good idea. What would the percentage be? - another department would decide that.

I am finding it very hard to have much confidence in Scottish Power re FITs but no doubt on 31st March all will be revealed. Has anyone else had dealings with Scottish Power?

Incidentally, the reason I am with them is that they had a good 5 year fixed deal in 2006 at 10.3p incl VAT. Expires in 2011.

The deemed export is set at 50% for everything other than hydro - which is 75%. This is included in the FITs legislation and I would expect that all suppliers will use these figures.

Thanks for this info Ted, I must have missed this detail somehow.

Anyway, it is probably about right for me at the moment though if I installed more PVs (currently 1.4kWp) then I would expect to export a higher percentage and would not be getting paid the "correct" amount. I know the emphasis is on home usage but if I can reduce my home consumption I would have thought I should be rewarded.

Maybe "smart meters" will enable a more accurate export amount to be calculated.

You can always fit an export meter if you think that the deemed 50% will mean you lose financially. SSE have been fitting dual import/export meters free of charge in the past.
