Daft really methinks!

Was just putting in a homemade curry to warm through, cooking off the rice & thought that alot of power could be saved if only  ovens yelled at you (beeped) at the required temp.
I mean come on how anal will the wife think I am if I measure empty oven warm up times based on ambient temps for the season!?
ok well you lot wouldn't however there's another world out there!
At least microwaves give you an auto beep, why are regular ovens 25 yrs behind?

criminal yet so easy to sort!

The ones with electronic controls beep  when they warm up and you can set a timer to turn off at a set time.   Linked temperature probes are a nice idea but I suppose they have a bit of a risk of contamination if they cannot be washed properly.    Timed rings on hobs are very convenient also.

We have a big lg combination grillconventionalmicro and any combination of the 22 different functions can be dialled in at the touch of half hour on the keyboard but it does beep when up to temperature.

Because you should not put food in the oven till its hot. So all you then need is a timer.

Oh they have them on ovens......

Just me, you miss the point, if it (reg oven) notified you it was up to temp then you could do it asap, & cook more efficiently..

timers for cooking, timers for pre-heating ...logical!

I have timed rings on the induction hob. The microwave tells me when it's up to temp when working as a conventional oven (and it heats up really quickly) but the £1300+ Miele oven doesn't. It only has a cooking timer oh and you can turn it on and off by the clock.

Hi,
I think it's an excellent idea. My old electric cooker had a light to indicatate when the element was on. Once it went off I knew it was up to temperature. Then the light would go on and off as the thermostat switched. We now use a worktop halogen oven - just big enough to hold a very large chicken. It's instantly up to temperature and much more efficient(it does superb pork and crackling).

Regards

Insolare has put his thumb on it !

I too have a pretty efficient (allegedly) posh brand oven, that cost a fair bit, & yet despite it being a premium brand (& presumably well planned, designed & executed) ...no warmed through to your desired tem, use me alert..

Flipping Flowery Sunhats, surely thats a GREEN selling point!?

It's helping to heat your house so why get fussy. I never wait anyway but I do wish microwaves would only beep once when done - I'm not deaf  I heard you the first time.
I have a counter top grill mini oven which is great as its clockwork timer is its on/off control.

My AEG Pyrolux oven beeps when up to temperature (settable in 5C increments) and also has a temperature probe you can stick into a roast and it will cook it to your taste (medium-rare anyone?).

Aren't we on this forum all supposed to be running wood burning stoves that are always hot anyway. You could wire a beeper into the flue 'stat that controls the charge pump.

The greening, is a slow lifelong process, not wasting a pretty efficient & new(ish) good oven! ..though the pre-heat beep could save alot of power from a simple action I'm sure!
If we live in a world of idiocy, let's try & build in some automatic energy saving measures to chip away at simple waste.
