Does anybody have an opinion on these units?

We are installinf a DVI 3.0 PowerOne inverter as part of our 2.16 Kwh system. The display unit looks great.

I can only comment on the wind generation inverters.

Marks out of 10

Windy Boy –5

Aurora 15

I have never had to take the top off the Aurora. And the software is Brill.

Thanks Alan,

The gubbins inside must be the same and I presume its the software that is just reconfigured for solar?

me too

I have the wind version - it is identical in hardware terms to the PV version - the inputs are even labelled PV1 and PV2....

worked from day 1. Slightly fiddly installation requiring gynacologist fingers to get inside the letter box and connect wires up. Efficient (standby requires 12 watts on a 3.6kw inverter). Two programs available - Installer and Communicator - installer configues the numbers, and communicator shows pretty pictures of the power made over time (and other stuff)

..... Pv seems do be another story ..., some people in Germany complain about "blackouts" of the Power one units , that leads to shut down of the MPPT tracker(s)  for minutes upto a few hours
and misleading information about power production and real production

Hi Billi,

My Soladin sometimes disconnects and then quickly reconnects which I find is no real problem, but if it was not reconnecting and the grid was not the problem this would be an issue.  Can you lead me to the forum discussing these problems and possible fix.

Thanks

We had our Aurora 3.6 OUTD fitted on 26-8-10 and it seems to be running fine. We are waiting for the Desktop Display unit which is on back order so that we can see the sull details of the 85Kwh we have generated in the last 2 weeks.

Do they let data out in open formats, like SMA do and Fronius don't? Windows-only software and a secret protocol is not good enough these days.

Someone has written an application for use on Linux systems:

http://www.curtronics.com/Solar/AuroraData.html

From the write up they look to have had co-operation from Magnetek. I've not tested it yet, but it looks to have been around for a while and be actively maintained.
