Hi - first post on the (excellent) forum so please be gentle.

We are in an off mains location and have used stream water from a very very old system for decades. This has now fallen completely into dis-repair and is virtually beyond help (plus the water quality coming off the hills is now dire compared to 20 years ago due to change of use of the land).

Anyhow. Need to cobble something together purely to get some water at the house for washing up and flushing the loo  etc - we always take our own drinking water.

I've got a 1000 lt IBC which will be located in a barn and insulated with polystyrene/kingspan, so light/algae will not be a problem.

To start with - I need a simple mains pump to pump water from the IBC up to two existing 40lt header tanks @ ~3 meters height. Any recommendations. (need to source this week!!). Dont mind if this is a submersible but it needs to fit through the 130mm hole in the top of the tank.

Also - filters, Mainly concerned with filtering the big muck that comes off the roof - leaves/moss etc.
I've seen the downpipe filters shown here http://www.3ptechnik.com/en/downpipefilters.html,

The property is often un-occupied, so I like the idea of the self ejecting ones, as there may be no-one around to constantly tinker with filters.

Unaware of a retailer of such items in the UK - anyone any clues.

Quite like Hugo's homebrew thing here... http://www.navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=m7mo4qa7u4nt2jq3k4t790j636&topic=11018.0

Hows that working out??

Any comments gratefully received.  Smiley

Only just saw this thread as have been busy making things.
Thanks for liking my set up, It is doing really actually.
If you look at the picture of my set up, the pipe coming in from the right from the guttering, I am going to lower the angle of this, so as to let the rain water enter the soil pipe lower down, that way with a filter in place above this should stay cleaner, with all debris falling down to the bottom.
Note to myself(I must do this soon, I am getting lazy).
I looked in the top of the storage tank today and it is clean, very pleased at that, also being a very hot day the water was cool, I put this down to the shrubs and fence giving it plenty of shading.
As for a pomp you could look at this old thread. http://www.navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5787.0.html

Good luck with your build.

Hi - cheers for the reply!.

Cheers for the link to the other thread - must have missed that one.. and damn - cause that Draper pump linked in the last post is about 70 quid cheaper and EXACTLY the same as the Clarke one I bought from Machine Mart.

Ended up forking out for a 3P rainus, which despite the text on their website DOES NOT fit a 68mm UK drain pipe in any way shape or form so there was some botching to do there. It cost about a £100  wackoold  but I needed it quick and wanted something that was maintenance free (i.e no basket that would get instantly blocked with leaves and require regular manual cleaning) since the property can be vacant for weeks on end.

Just spent the weekend fitting the system,

Here are some pics.

Booster pump and filter with feed into property.

The intention is to not use this as drinking water just yet. We'll see how it goes then maybe add a Liff filter and UV system.

I know its not terribly green, using mains electricity etc, but its looks like its going to be a very easy answer to providing water at the property. A mains connection looked like it was going to cost 10's of thousands.
