Yeah, that helps a bit, thanks.

You mentioned about using a car 12v charger for the phones - for my laptop I have a 12v charger as well as the mains brick. So can I take it that the 12 pack is likely to take less from the battery than just plugging the brick in to it (via inverter)? I assumed it would drain the same as it was powering the same, but would save on the loss from the inverter?

I "put a meter on it", and on my laptop the 12v charger used under half what the inverter/mains brick combination took! Same difference with "car" type 'phone chargers - generally the 12v jobs are switch mode converters that are remarkably efficient. You can pick up multiple output voltage ones off Fleabay for under a tenner for things like cameras...... Smiley

that's pretty much what I did for the laptop - it was £45 for a laptop charger or a multipower one with 10 adaptors for £9!

I'm not sure what my LED projector uses off hand but it didn't seem to harm the battery too much when I used it a few days ago (computer using its own battery). I might look in to a 12v version of that, then I can use it as a low voltage tv if I want to (computer charger says it is only 3.5A, which is less than my 12v tv lol)

got my thinking cap on, garden,i can see a great future combining rock climbing and portable wind turbines, onpatrol
so your up a cliff face,2000ft above a raging gorge, you have twin turbines on your back and a pair of 12ah up your jumper, its hot, damd hot,at the back of your mind your hoping for a usefull breeze that would put your twin turbine to good use but it calm, hot and humid, the climbing is getting tricky, shale and slate ahead and a vertical outcrop directly above, your hoping the blades of your twins will not foul on the rock outcrop those 12ahs really need a charge,
suddenly your grip gives way with handfull of usless clay, your falling.quick thinking and with a little adjustment you throw your self out, clear of the rocks and set your controller to maximum charge, as you fall you notice the charge going into the 12ahs is exceeding all your expectations, the blades are slowing down, the controller is getting hot, you plug in your shaver, your laptop and tv,(it was after all one hell of a heavy load),its working, the tv has a little snow (to be expected) and vertical lines. you have 1000ft to go and its a bit uncomfortable, you do not want to leave it too late,so you throw the reverse switch and now the two turbines act as drive motors and begin to slow down your decent, within minutes  your levelling out and looking for a place to land. your a bit peeved because the dongle on the laptop is not performing as it should, the 12ahs up your jumper are getting a bit uncomfortable, hot,,sweaty.,well after all you have two.,down below the press are waiting. this is it,history has been made.
could this be the future folks,i never mentioned the solar panel,     wackoold

good thinking! Add a high-fibre diet and inflatable trouserings you'd have a renewably-powered dirigibubble! ralph
