Hello everyone, here goes with a brief overview of my home heat and power system, and the results so far.

The solar pv consists of 18 Sharp ND220 modules and an SMA WB 3800 inverter reconfigured for pv operation. Panels are inset into a concrete tiled roof, and the opportunity was taken to insulate between the rafters with 80mm kingspan, and fit Tyvek underslating to keep out any draught. A neat re tile of the nearly south facing roof round the panels completes the picture.
The inverter and export meter are housed in the powerhouse, a structure with 11" brickwork and a green roof, along with 44 Powersafe 6 volt ex UPS batteries of 164 ah each, driving a 4 kw modified sine wave inverter and a 600w pure sine wave inverter feeding dedicated socket outlets in the house.
The battery charger is programmed to run when solar energy is available, and its electrical supply will be supplemented by an 8kw alternator driven by a direct injection version of the old Lister CS with exhaust and cooling water heat recovery supplementing the central heating system.
A Strafford 13kw wood burning boiler will be installed in the utility room and this will also supplement the gas central heating when running, via an Alfa Laval heat exchanger.
Results so far have been very encouraging, with nearly 1700 kwh generated since the 19th April this year, and a 70% decrease in grid power consumed over the same period, all this and a really tasty FITS cheque as well.

Work continues and I will post updates as progress is made.

Regards, Martyn.
