Am I allowed to comment on typos here? I mean is anyone interested in typing correct English or are you happy in your ignorance, thinking that "everyone will understand so correct English doesn't matter"? (This appears to be the current thinking in UK schools nowadays.)
I thought I'd better ask because some forums welcome corrections and some don't. One forum actually banned me for pointing out a typo that changed the whole meaning of somebody's post. Apparently I was subjecting the poster to "public humiliation" by translating what he meant to express. The fact that what he expressed wasn't what he meant didn't seem to matter.
Hey, who changed my subject line?

Be my guest if you wanna play teacher but im sure your making a rod for your back and will have your work cut out. The way i look at it is like this, - Les Dawson was allowed to play the piano out of key and tune cos he was so bloody good at playing it properly to start with, and the same follows for my grammar and typing. ( I dont make spelling mistakes, just typos) I know how to talk tidy and therefore earned my right to type as I like, mistakes and all

Oh yeah You gots to remember that Billi talks english for his second or maybe third language and I for one wouldnt dream of correcting him cos hes doing bloody great to get this far.
Others may be dyslexic and might just be totally peed off with being corrected.
Having said that, im all for maintaining what left of our linguistic herritage, but I think its gonna die when our generation dies. Nothing new in history though as its all been done before
As you may have noticed, certain words are filtered and changed automatically, and Martin likes to have his say too

Bad spelling is often an indicator that the person is above average intelligence. In Ireland there was a big increase in both second level and third level education all within a very short period so there are people working in the same job with primary education only while others have degrees. When someone produces a complex report with just some spelling mistakes it is still impressive when that person may have had ten years less schooling than his colleagues. I am sure the same applies to forums, take notice of the content not the spelling.

The forum software transposed the thread title by use of it's automatic "naughty words" substitution ability. Spelling, punctuation and grammar on a forum are a ticklish subject - having been educated back in the days when such things were taught and literally "knocked into" us, I do find myself wincing at much of what I see on various fora (it "gets me" rather like the atrocious table manners displayed on the current "Birds Eye" ads on ITV3) - BUT that says more about me and my education than anything else..... I have to accept that different criteria are at play nowadays, and if school doesn't find correct grammar and punctuation to be important, then who am I to try to put right a couple of generations of atrocious teaching? Add to that the fact that many very bright people are dyslexic, and often some of our leading board members don't have English as a first language, it's a can of worms that's best left (I waste enough bloody time doing Joyce Grenfell imitations as it is ........."don't do that Timothy") Thus spake the boring old f*rt who'd have to sort out the inevitable WW3 that would occur!

Translators are good but they dont always understand context.
Have you ever read one of those hillarious instruction manuals which try and use as many inapropriate words as possible?
Your doing good Billi. I guess you find many Germanic words which olde English adopted
