Before the price increases, the best price I had come across for grid-connection was from EDF ENERGY who were paying 7.9p/kWh WITHOUT including ROCs. Customers are always asking for contact details so here it is - Nigel.French@edfenergy.com   - sorry Nigel!

I have heard rumours that there are better prices now that prices have risen, and there are some good deals eg npower 10p/kWh or more. I don't know if this is true or not, but if anyone has details or experience, please share. What prices are you being paid for renewable electric?

I've had a chat to Nigel myself - he's based near me, (Sussex) - he seems genuinely helpful and encouraging - let's hope it's a sign of good things to come - he intimated that EDF had a "strong commitment" to renewables - time will tell! Cool

He was just about the only person that seemed to know anything about it when I enquired. He was genuinely helpful - All of the other companies including the 'big boys' did not even know what I was talking about. It did seem obvious that you need to contact a specific individual, and no one else can help...and the call centres are never familiar with the relevant person.

I did this research about 18months ago, and I think attitudes have changed somewhat - hopefully for the better.

I give a big thumbs-down to Good Energy - everyone talks about them being good for cashing-in ROCs, but when I spoke to them they really did not want my electricity - told me that the cost of installing an export meter would be far too expensive unless I was producing at least 5kW constantly. When I told them that I already had an approved export meter fitted, they suddenly became very uninterested, and told me that they would pay no more than 2p/kWh - and only if I bought their electricity which was around 20% more expensive than most suppliers. A friend of mine who has a 500W water turbine off-grid approached them about ROCs, and he found them totally unhelpful. It seems that although ROCs could make the difference for small-scale renewable energy production, they are virtually impossible to cash-in.

Hi
The following may be a load of old tosh, however, hope it helps anyone who is looking to get grid connect.

Try Mark.Thompson@edfenergy.com in London/Seeboard and SWEB area, have spoken to him and he was helpful, also think that Mark Burton 01293 509189 will help. Between them they arrange the G83 paperwork, import/export prices (8.5p-7.6p) and can arrange back-stop meters etc. Ecotricity may buy units at 4p and sell at 8p, gary.freedman@ecotricity.co.uk  For ROC’s can try Trade Link Solusions poss get 3-4p each, contact Penelope@tradelinksolutions

If the info is good would appreciate feedback via the forum.
Thanks

Suz provided me with the following contact details:

Louisa Gilchrist at Npower juice - 01905 340646,

a colleague within the wind/water power industry suggested that npower are paying well over 10p/kWh for renewable energy. Not sure if this is true. Has anyone asked them?

NPower
Old SEEBoard area first 750 units @ 15.95p then 9.05p buy at 9.05p.
Old Southern area 19.41p then 9.37p buy at 9.37p.
ROC's at £33.24/1000kwh (while ROC's obligation exists 04-2006 to 04-2007).
