List
Desp is her for a few days- in return for his plumbing experience I have agreed to sort him out with temperature logging. I was hoping for LogTemp,  OneWireViewer and Arduino. I was expecting XP. Any known problems with Windows 7? I have heard of difficulties with drivers etc.

In general I use Vista drivers if i am having issues getting hold of Win 7 ones. Arduino runs fine on my machine just make sure you download the latest IDE and that will have the right drivers. If your having problems with software you could always try compatibly mode (right click the executable and select properties and then com patability). you can also try reducing or turning off the UAC (user account control), this will prevent the OS from prompting for admin rights during operation, be sure to turn it back on again though as it is a good feature of Win 7.

Hope this helps

OWFS still seems to involve cygwin so I've stayed out. Pity really I bet there's more machines willing to use Windows rather than go the whole hog and go linuxy...

Hi Wyleu
apparently you can get a boot CD disk with OWFS and linux etc. Eric has tried it out and assures me it does work.
My main worry is with drivers for the DS9097USB (Cheap Chinese dongle) and the  DS9490R but I will give it a try tonight.

Probably DSL (Damn Small Linux) which certainly works. It does, however, lack one or two niceties owpython and owtap to remember two. But it does let you run owserver which lets you pick up the data via a remote login from something else.
A great way of trying it out, but they don't expect to kick it up any versions cos the kernel's need to be newer and that's not what DSL is about.

You should be able to start up owserver and owhttd, point a browser at the appropriate place and see good stuff. Probably a pretty good compatibility test.

Well
god news - the drivers (64 bit ) work on the DS9490 and I have had both OneWireViewer and LogTemp up and running. Now installing the Arduino package.
Plumbing is also going well. See the Greening of StBC thread if interested.

Would humanist

secularist news be preferable?
