Use expanded polystyrene which is cheaper and waterproof. Kingspan is a high performance material for places where volume is an issue, it can absorb water and then doesn't work.

newbie so go easy please......have same idea as this thread but using poultry manure as opposed to other suggestions as a difficult product to dispose of on grass land due to botulism threat......hoping that aerobic composting rectifies this as then would be good fertiliser. what energy production are you likely to get per kilo of poultry litter based on straw as opposed to wood chip? my idea is to use old keenan mixer wagon very slowly rotating with pipes in middle connected to heat pump for domestic home......obviously modified to minimise heat loss.......keenan makes it easier to fill /empty as well as speed up process with no daily involvement.......hoping for system which needs filling/emptying every 3/4 weeks which would be no big deal............need about equivalent of 150kw/day of heat for mainly winter operation, so less when using heat pump......other benefit is that keenan can be sped up at night to take advantage of off peak electric............am at crossroads of trying this or giving up and going easy route of biomass boiler.....can someone help as see lots of cheap talk but no system details?Huh?? if this was to work then should be good biz proposition as loads of poultry litter around country looking for a home

Here is where a lot of chicken litter is going:

I would be keen to see if the decomposure of manure would remain self heating when the heat was being taken out of it.
