I suppose this comes under the category of bodge and possibly energy-saving.

I've just bought an incubator for chicken/duck/goose eggs, very pleased with it except for one thing. When it turns the eggs it plays a little tune to itself, those wacky Koreans don't half know how to enjoy themselves. All great, except for at 2am, 3am, 4am ... A quick google finds plenty of people with the same annoyance and the only solution given seems to be 'spend the extra £50 for the deluxe version where you can turn the tune off'.

Or take a hammer to it. Or more subtly, a no. 1 pozi and some snips. Bearing in mind, that when I tinker with electronics I always let the magic smoke out I thought I'd best get some advice. What's the best way to disable a piezo buzzer without the rest of the circuitry being any the wiser?

a) snip one of the terminals?
b) short across the two terminals?
c) poke the point of a compass through it a la my Action Man walkie-talkie 30 years ago?

Cheers,

Steve.

Add enough insulation to it to stop you hearing it....

A friend who does eggs commercially on a small scale, bought an incubator - and found it has two heationg elements - both 1kw (iirc). One was on permenantly, the other was thermostatically controlled! he put the incubators into an old tesco fridge van back - and found that this was 'too much' insulation, and the eggs cooked! he has now modified it accordingly, and uses vastly less leccy.

Thanks for the replies, going to cut into the lead and add a 'silence' switch.
