Billi, that sounds to me like the relay is stuck in the "on" position.
Unless it is a "feature" of the macerator that it runs the pump when the power is first applied.
Did it always work like this?
When you turn it on do you hear the relay click on ?
No i do not hear the relay ( but pump is loud as well )
And its normal for the unit ( read it in the manual) when you first connect it to power it will pump regardless of there is something to pump
When the socket switch is now on and i flush until the toilet is overflowing

and switch the socket of and straight after on again , it will not pump
But if i wait about 15 sec and then switch it on it will pump
If you stick 24V DC across the coil the correct way you should hear the relay click if it's mechanical Cheesy
So what i call the relay , you call "the coil" ?
