.........all i wanted to do was roll up my sleeves and get stuck in............

Well dont let me stop you!  Grin Plenty of tinkering to attend to hereabouts. Not least, of course, The Blades of Certain Death to re-erect at some point....

Does this mean it's the giant frotty hamster wheel of  power for Stoveboy for the next week? Shocked

The Panda.

Now then,  where do the alternators go....?

We seem to be getting through our belts pretty quickly..... i have bought some belt dressing spray which makes them kinda sticky and helps to stop slippage - but even so there is black rubber everywhere!

Here are two belts side by side. One i took off today as it has a shred hanging off it, t'other brand spankers. The used one is noticably narrower and thinner... was identical about a month ago...

Pff..! Wouldve been cheaper to pay the blummin 'lectric bill!

 Roll Eyes

Went and had a rummage round the tip today.
Mmmmm.... the tip...

I luv the tip, me!!!

Mr Frotts Quote “ Managed to measure (in Chernobyl) across the 3 phases of the 'resting' wind turnip today - all open circuit. “

The brush box has caught fire twice on my 1 K.W. machine now. Since doing away with the complete assembly I have had no more problems. Fitted a 3 phase SY Multiflex cable direct from generator to ground termination. Also much better with the three phases shorted to stop the machine rotating in high winds, losses in the carbon three phase brush assembly and brush cables allow the machine to start rotaing even when the three phase cable is shorted.

Frotter

Check out Hugh Piggotts website http://www.scoraigwind.com/ , as the guru of homebuilt wind turbines he advocates using a flexible cable rather than slip rings.

Some of the Americans use welding cable clamped at the top and bottom. Its durable and winds up like a spring, eventually unwinding and pushing the turbine back the other way.

-it's surprising how little they do fully rotate - even little yottie jobs - even after a season on a boat, there's little sign of "wind up" on the cable Wink

Hmmm... well on all your sound advice i have just bought some Multiflex online. 6mm 4-core - 12 metres of above for £20. Hope its gonna work!
Hoping to have some Blades of Death ressurection time in the week maybe. (busy at weekend...  Undecided )
Maybe the brush carrier on my turnip actually did quite well to survive 8 months of output without inspection. I did take it apart when new and put it all together properly though. Without that i doubt it would have lasted 8 days  - it was so SHODDY.  Roll Eyes

Small amount of tinkering recently....
It seemed prudent to look at alt no 1's comm.......
Ewwww, dirty....  Tongue

Mmmmmm... shiny!!!  Grin

See - it really is all go round here at Frot Towers....

Day 95 Off-Grid today and still not run out of Lard. It is going down though...... Am hoping luvly Stoveboy is going to be able to produce some of The Precious from the school where he is Supreme Assistant I.T. Nerd.   Wink

Hopefully more soon on Speccyblokes great scheme for smoothing out our controller pulses.. it gets ever so hot - doh!

Hi Frotter,
Out of interest,
How many Frots have you produced now and how much lard do you go through a day.  Is it still the same.

Weeelllll.... bit difficult to say precisely how many Frots are produced as there is no metering and we have been tinkering with the output setting a bit recently. Eg if Ivor starts up in the late afternoon we lower the output to force a longer run so heat can be gathered all evening during central heating peak time. Our total usage is averaging out to just under 24kw/h per day after 96 days. At the moment what with the wind turnip 'having a rest' Stoveboy style, Ivor is making most of our power...
Using on average 18-23 ish litres a day of Dearest Lard. Am hoping the long hot summer we will surely have  Roll Eyes will see that drop off a bit....
Been having a look at The Lardpile today.... 61 tubs remain until Lard Zero. I am going to try and update this tally as we go along....  Undecided

Frotdate 080306:  LZ-61 and counting.......
Etc..

Came home today to find Ivor chugging away to himself happily even though the inverter had told him to stop! I think one of the auto shut down relays or timers had randomly failed to latch or summat.   Roll Eyes   Roll Eyes
Still - the batteries went all warm and bubbly - lets just call it an equalisation cycle.   Grin
