Hurry Up Frot, I'm going to have to start fixing my Naviturnip soon I want a step by step pictorial guide to work from... Roll Eyes

Which version of the hub do you have now, as I am waiting for a price from NaviJohn too on some relacement blades, and he alreay muttered something about changing the hub or something. Seems like they are onto a Mk3 hub and blade set now. There is potential for some swopshop stuff here to get two working sets from what they can supply.

Yeah sorry - its a good point well put....

Before recent updates, then - this is the small blade set The Navvys eventually sent me to replace the exploded ones.

I still have the hub and two good blades of this set. Blades are around 1230mm long.

This was the first replacement hub i received, with some medium flavour blades wot i got off of Ebuy 'eck. Still have this good hub but no blades. (All blew up. Again)

Pole lowering Sunday then.....

Heres me gin pole nailed on and a chain run between the base and opposite side ground anchor. this is because my mast is only sat on the mud and much sideways shove could see an interesting, but unwanted, failure.    Roll Eyes

Just then -

"please state the nature of the teknikal emergency..!"

Yay! Tis the SpeccyWan. Summoned forth from Cyber Exile far away to lend an awesome photonic bicep or two.

And just lookit that fabulous new rope I reverently placed at his/its holographic feet. £4.99 worth of the finest cord Home Direct could supply. That should be ideal for this job. I mean just look at it...!    Tongue

Hmm? Wassat you say Spek? Gin pole a bit short? Yeah but,   er,
Everything will be FIIINNE!

See, hes got the rope fixed on by ingenous use of some sort of threading of the stuff back through itself. Remarkable! And he/it hasnt said anything about the bungee 'helper' to feebly pull the end of the pole up toward the wire.......

He really likes my splendid new rope! You can just tell it is going to be the making of this job!

Thats it - just do what you're doing there. I expect that'll be right.

Lookit the electronic facsimile of total glee he is displaying on his facial output unit!
He feckin luvvs yon rope!!

Have to stop now til later.
Overcome with the memory of it swamping me Frot-senses.

Hmmm, well i didnt know how else to help stop the pole skiddadling off. As it happens, that wasnt a problem.......

Anyhooo....

At this point i had to trek over and calm the troops, who were muttering somethin about short gin poles. All he has to do is lift it up as the pole drops so the rope lodges into the luvly notch chopped in the end.   Roll Eyes

How hard can it be for flips sake?

Whats needed here is some reverse gear action. Sgt Scuffle starts creeping backwards.....

The pole slowly lowered a few degrees - fine! Then there was this completely awesome noise, sounded a bit like as if a rope made of nylon was giving up in some way.  Ripping, creaking, tearing sort of a noise. Hmm.
Seems that Home Direct's splendid 'rope' was in fact a cunning one use only fall-arresting device.
It stretched and whatever the fluffy white filling is made of parted inside the outer case in many, many places! The turnip sort of 'fell with style' to rest with a bit of a thump on my rickety builders trestle......   whistlie

Straight to Brown Alert!

Well its down anyhow, and seemingly no more busted than before.........

Blimmin 'eck!
A slight rethink before trying for re-erection i would av thought!

Focus is all to c0ck here but you can see the super strength candy floss filler poking out like a pokey-out thing.

It'll be the ceremonial Bonfire O Frotdor for that fecker!

I expect.

Frot,

Buy some boating rope on fleabay - it will be strong, good quality, UV resistant and available in all thicknesses. I can recommend giving this lot a call:

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/UK-YACHT-RIGGING-AND-SUPPLIES-LTD

The owner is very helpful and delivery is quick.

Not all that is shiny is good... especially at £4.99. Did that Gin pole work, albeit with the rope failure do you think, and does it not wibble around on its own bolt? or is it tightened up so much that it is fixed?

When my tower went down it ripped where the baseplate bolt is, I'd be cautious of introducing any more weakness there.

awwww brave frotts,
i hate to think what might have happened had your rope been wire and solid, then it might have been too sudden

awww brave frotts,
you have survived a truly dangerous event,i hate to think what might have happened if your rope had been solid wire.then the sudden snap might have collapsed the gin pole, just where the wood meets metal.i think the time has come to invest in a handy winch and reinforce the centre of your gin pole but perhaps i should not speak.so forgive me for opening my mouth.i would rather see you safe and well and read many more pages of your sucesses.

Hehe - yep, proper prolapsed and strangulated methinks.

All comments noted - thanks!
The gin pole did seem to hold up fine as it appens and cant see signs of undue stress to the pivot hole.
Mustve been just lucky. Everyone was fully aware of the high possibility of calamitous failure!
As usual......  Roll Eyes
I do actually have some old style rope lurking somewhere. i'll have a rummage.....

If its blue and nylon, and has at least six joining knots to make it long enough, then it is made for the job.

I use lifting slings personally which I bought years ago, when I used to get my landy stuck in wales a lot for a hobby.

Find a caver or a climber - they are always chucking away top-quality rope. (that's where all mine comes from).

I reckon your controlled demolition was spot on old chap.

If you are thinking of tugging it back to vertical at some point, heres a tow rope that will take a 10.5 tonne pull, its 5m long and costs £20 +vat

http://www.euroropesuk.co.uk/heavy-duty-tow-rope--4x4--off-road-recovery--105-ton-mbl-car-land-rover-boat-mooring-203-p.asp

Course you will be wanting something a bit heavier than that ole pickup to give it a proper tug.
Probably summat on tracks with a hydraulic arm attached ....
