I'm sure that I read somewhere that a well insulated 100m square house with UFH could be heated with 20kwh per day (though I was hoping it would be less)

My place is 100m² and I averaged 20kWh/day of electricity in January plus 50kg of coal, but that was for ALL the electricity, not just heating, and my house is an inefficient shape (high ratio of walls/roof/floor to internal volume) and my insulation is less than you're planning to use.

As for the Ecocent, there's nothing complex about it. It's a tank with a compressor and heat exchanger. Fit and forget.

Malcolm, I've not written the Ecocent off yet, just need to do more reading, I'm fitting MVHR anyway, am I right in thinking the Ecocent could be integrated into this  I know I've got piles of stuff to maintain but it strikes me that the Ecocent is like a very complicated fridge with a pressure cylinder under it, how many fridges do you know that have lasted 20 years and have a potential bomb under them that needs servicing every year  Like I said, I am tempted, you've done a pretty good sales pitch so expect a visit

Yes. The Ecocent is an excellent MVHR unit. Better than MVHR, I think, because the exhaust air is generally colder than the outside air.
Maintenance means replacing the anode once or twice a year (somewhat less arduous than maintaining the Landrover).

My uncle bought my granny an Electrolux fridge in 1956. I inherited it in 1987. Last year it was semi-retired, now doing beer cooling duty, but still working perfectly after 55 years.

I did a fair bit of research on heat pumps and the barge.  The best one would have been the ground source using sea water but as the tide goes out here I wouldn't have been able to get enough heat to last.  You won't be burying your slinky will you.    Air source seemed good but when you really need it it doesn't work too well.  The damp air of the marsh, and I suspect, the "wet coast" means it spends most of it's time on defrost.  The other problem was feeding the thing with precious electricity not to mention the noise issue when living in a tin box.  

If you only have to top up with the WBS then it's no so bad as having to cut for the entire winter.  Draughts are about nil when the stove is shut down and if you have a dedicated air 'ole for the stove you could perhaps shut that too.  I would think you use heat for 10 months of the year up there unless you're real hard like.  Mid May to mid September is my only real heat free days.  I will often light the stove on a chilly or wet evening in September, well any time really.  If I don't burn it - it will only rot.
