Programmers have an acronym: YAGNI — You ain't gonna need it which is the principle that you should leave out implementing features in a program until you're sure they're actually required.

I wonder if your best approach might be to not install the woodburner at first though making sure that it would be an easy retrofit (e.g., blocking off an area of the roof insulation where the stove pipe would go, perhaps fitting the pipes if doing it later would be messy, etc). See whether it's needed in practice over a couple of winters. The worst that can happen is that you need to run the Lister a bit more.

or have a wood gasifier boiler in the shed  that loads /boils the 1000 litre tank with one burn in a few hours (but pump required ) for that short time

they are not very expensive either  and already second hand ones available   like this 25 kw one ( i know in Germany so transport is a prob i believe

And have no stove or just one without back boiler

Hi Ed, Billi,

both good suggestions, and things I've thought about and not ruled out. The YAGNI was my first plan but it really depends on how much power I can reliably produce renewably, if it's borderline then I may go down that route but if it's likely then I'd rather have a chimney designed into the fabric to give me some interior thermal mass to compensate for the bridge  Grin also, by the time I've laid all the plumbing ready, sized the store and had a gravity coil fitted I'm only really saving the price of the stove itself.

The wood gassifier, external furnace or whatever I do like but my new shed is going to be quite a distance away, though there's nothing to stop me building a dedicated one, food for thought chaps, thanks.

Cheers, Paul

paul, I may have a second hand 18kW atmos, laddomat, and 750l akvaterm if you are interested, located in mid wales.  Very little used.

PM me if you might be interested, and I will jolly them along.
