The University of Manchester together with other research partners want to know what you think are the main issues and impacts, both positive and negative, of electricity generation in the UK.  Do you have 10-15mins to help them? If Yes, click on the link below to complete a short questionnaire. You'll have the option of entering a prize draw with a chance to win a £50 Amazon Voucher. The results will help shape a methodology to assess the sustainability of how the UK generates electricity.

Sorry, it requires Javascript, so I won't be completing it.

I filled it in, and then started finding that it really "got up my nose" in numerous respects, so backed off and left it - I find the lack of a "I refuse to answer the question" on ethnicity frankly offensive (what the hell has it got to do with the price of fish?), and then decided that I really didn't want to give all my contact details (particularly a 'phone number) just for the probable nil chance of a £50 Amazon voucher.........

"The results will help shape a methodology to assess the sustainability of how the UK generates electricity" is meaningless gibberese, and having run through the "questionnaire", I totally fail to understand how a few people's opinions and depth of/total lack of knowledge on "local" power generation has the slightest bearing on whether something is sustainable or not, or what methods should be used to decide...... (it's fairly bloody simple, and clutter all to do with what is being sought from the questionnaire).

Rather brings to mind a figure that stuck in my mind that I heard this week - that 44% of people with degrees need basic literacy training when starting employment...........

Useless survey.  The opening questions were hopeless.

I have solar PV on my roof and therefore live 0 miles from a solar PV power station.  But teh questions appear to refer to large scale installations rather than domestic ones. I gave up.

I looked at your survey, it was utterly cr@p, ..what the hell do you think you'll achieve with such a weasel pee poor survey? ..reminded me of the variety I used to do on paper as a 14 yr old.

I find it deeply sad - we can hardly blame the poor post-grad student who posted it, but it does underline just how low the standards of "wackademia" have become (there have been other glaring examples on the forum recently). As everyone's noted, the questionnaire isn't just a bit flawed, it's nonsensical! If you look through the linked website (I did), it rapidly underlines much of what's wrong in universities today - "personalities" aren't praised for their contribution to the world's knowledge, but for how much lolly they've extracted from business interests (who will doubtless want something in exchange for those monies!)

As for "unbiased research", I doubt there is much anywhere these days, industries instead use universities to cloak their often nefarious activities with a veneer of academic respectability - here's a little quote from the website which rather sums it up......

"Dr Paul Howarth, Dalton Nuclear Institute, The University of Manchester
Paul Howarth is Director of Research at the Dalton Nuclear Institute, the University of Manchester where he is responsible for growing the University’s research capability and leading on new initiatives such as establishing the new Centre for Nuclear Energy Technology, and involvement in the National Nuclear Laboratory. With close links into nuclear industry stakeholders, UK Government and EU Commission, Paul has been involved/led new national initiatives in nuclear R&D totalling almost £40m"

Not the slightest chance of the teensiest bias there then! whistlie

It's a Turing-complete language with bugs. Why would you ever want to allow unknown code to run on your machine?

Google knows, or try these, for example:
