I'm looking for a second hand 48V battery bank. I've currently got a bank of 2V cells giving about 640AH. This is really far too small for my application but I don't have the money to buy a brand new bank of 1250AH cells, which is really what I need.
I'm also worried that the existing bank is quite old and could at some point soon break on me.
If anyone has any cells or complete banks of high'ish capacities (640AH and up) available for a reasonable second hand price, I'd be quite happy to come and collect (we're in Derbyshire, but I tend to travel all over the UK, so can pick up pretty much anywhere that isn't an island or in the north of Scotland).

There are several golf carts for auction here - http://www.sweeney-kincaid.com/Sales/CatalogLots.aspx?SaleId=1678
I've seen them go for a couple of hundred pounds on that site.

Have a ring / email round forklift suppliers for a used bank.

The problem is that dead banks are now worth nearly £500 per tonne as scrap.

For example our 700ah @ 48v bank (we use it as 2800ah@12v) weighs 1200kg so is worth £600 as scrap.

Any specific recommendations for where to go to get knackered old forklift batteries recycled? (In the UK ;-)

I have 10x Trojan 150ah batteries =18kWh of power!!

If you want 48 volt pack you could wire 4 batteries in series for 48volts, and two of these packs in parallel for 48v 300ah.

They cost me £1700. They have only completed 230cycles and are rated up to 1000cycles if you discharge to 70%, even more if dont discharge that deep.  Mnay places are charging over £200 each for thesenew.

I am asking £700 for all 10.

you can see the spec here:

Hi Dave.

I've been limping along with my existing bank and I still need to sort something....
Unfortunately, 300AH is not enough, I need something exceeding 1000AH.
I'm also leaning towards putting an array of solar panels in the back garden. Jury is out if that's legal without planning permission in my case, but no-one's going to see them either way, so one would hope I would get planning....
That would reduce the load on the batteries thus making what I've got more suitable...

Thanks for the offer though.

Over 1000ah? at 48volt=  48kWh??? Blimey what are you running to consume that much power? Glastonbury festival? Shocked

Have you measured how much power your old pack can actually store? If they are that old perhaps they just aren't efficient?

Have to agree, but that's a mid summer job if you're off-grid. But may be worth doing now or it could be a difficult winter...?
