Title says it all really!

bearing in mind how they proliferate as freebies (of varying standards) why has this helpful step not been slid into any political parties debate for a passing of bills in H.O.C?

One good reason to have building control interfering on this one when they check out works.

Possibly because of the eagerly awaited smart meters that everyone is supposed to be getting soon?

But that would imply that they have joined up thinking so is probably wrong.

Because after the first five minutes of novelty people realise they could have worked it out by looking round the house for five minutes to see what is turned on.
Because after the first year the stupid display stops working so it represents £30 worth of totally wasted energy maoing the thing.
Because messing around saving 5p a day by switching off a light is nothing compared to the energy saved by not buying plastic junk toys, not buying another leather sofa on special offer when the current one is less than 40 years old, not buying 2 for 1 fat face food and then throwing half of it away etc etc

Fark me Baz  hysteria ...pour a gin, a big one!

& an ant-acid.

I'm of the same mind, however it's all babysteps, don't you find that with say an Owl or similar you are drawn to it & check it, certainly in the 2 yrs we've had ours it's been a constant point of reference & conversation.
Now with the peak watch / max grid hours alert etc it's also encouraging us to go further.

10 yrs ago hardly anyone in this country recycled, ....now half of what they throw is.
baby steps in another form surely, especially with the added incentive of unaffordable energy costs!?

Bas,
I would partly agree with you. No good to me however a lot of people out there are ignorant of what uses a lot of power and what uses a little.
One of my friends thinks his daughter phone charger plugged in with no phone connected is upping his bill massively. He brings his beard trimmer into work to charge up for the same reason.
Yet he will go out and leave all the lights on.
