After having a look through - http://www.policyexchange.org.uk/images/publications/pdfs/2020_Hindsight_-_May__11.pdf - it would make you wonder why we are bothering with PV at all!  onpatrol

Sorry, but I'm not going to take seriously any graph which uses the word 'levelised.'

What's wrong with levelised Richard?  I wouldn't trust the Policy Exchange graph because they don't reference what study they took their costs from and at what discount rate, but don't have any problem with the concept of levelised cost of energy.

What's wrong with levelised Richard?

Because anyone with GSCE English would know that the appropriate term is normalised.

Ted, all, it was this bit that worries me most:

We will consult on the comprehensive review later this year. The review will be completed by around the end of 2011, with tariffs remaining unchanged until April 2012 (unless the review indicates the need for greater urgency).

They mean different things Richard.  Levelised costs means the total lifetime costs per unit of output levelised to current value of money;  normalised means, well normalised. A study like that would try to normalise the levelised costs.

I imagine that the author and editor would have different views on the levelisation process.

normalised is a word, levelised isn't. normal -> normalised while level -> levelled

When do technical terms have to be real words?
