Quick question.

I'm planning on using Speedfit underfloor heating, but Polypipe "eggbox" tiles to clip the pipes into.

The reason for this is I prefer the Speedfit system (used it for plumbing for many years) and the manifolds appear to be slightly better engineered.  But I prefer the polypipe "eggbox" tiles and they are cheaper.

My question is, I assume that 15mm Polypipe polybutylene and 15mm Speedfit polybutylene pipe are the same external diameters, i.e. they are interchangeable from a clipping in to the "eggbox" tiles point of view.

Is this true?

Metric pipe is measured externally unlike imperial pipe which is measure internally. Thats why 1/2" & 15mm pipe is the same size when we all know that half inch is more like 12.5mm ish. So yes you will be ok plus you can use the fittings for one with the pipe for another.

As justme says, they are interchangable (the polypipe is more flexible mind).

I on the other hand would not use either, as even the JG speedfit manifolds are rather lacking. (add to this that they are not using pipe that is not designed as a radiant source...)

Oh dear....

Answer one question raise another   Embarrassed Grin

OK so the speedfit pipe should be fine with the polypipe panels.

but....

Brandon, you say the PP is more flexible than the SF, is this based on the PP being polybutylene and the SF being Polyethylene? SF now do a PB pipe which I was planning on using precisely because of the increased flexibility.

Also if I don't use SF or PP manifolds, who would you recommend?

And what pipe would you recommend, if not 15mm PB?

Cheers

I've got 40m2 of egg boxes spare from another job just sitting in my garage.

As for UFH I've used the Qual-pex barrier pipe from BES with a polyplumb manifold on the last job and they worked fine. Come to think of it, I've got a six way manifold spare-ish (it needs taking out from where it was going to be used but isn't now) as well.

And a couple of hundred metres of pipe.

I'm in Gl15 if that's any use to you?

qual-pex is exellent gear, be sure to use the brass insert instead of the black placky one which restricts the flow.before you pour the finish floor charge the pipe,,ie, fill it with water and seal it,this ensures that the pipe stayes fully open while the floor is being finished off.do not use connectors under the floor, just connect to the manifold only.
