We are currently using one of those. It works as advertised, does a lot of things. You can take a look at our monitoring page, even if the house is still under construction http://www.sdac.ro/site/archives/796

If you want to know something particular about it, ask away.

No, but as it seems to be a US thing, I'll mention that a friend in the US is currently trying out one of these:

http://www.redhillnetworks.com/products/webcontrol/index.html

He found it on Amazon.com for a mere $35 (from a well rated supplier, and when the item arrived it had shipped direct from CAI thenselves).

He let me log in to have a look at the web interface. Very impressive, and even more so at that price.

That was around a month ago. Maybe it's time I asked how he's got on since then...

The WEL has one 1wire bus, 8 status inputs, 2 analog inputs and 6 counter inputs. I bought commercial energy meters that have S0 outputs - basically an optocoupler pulse output that gives 2000 imp/kWh and wired them to the counter inputs. The software allows for scaling and many more afterwards.

Hope it helps.

About the other american thing, it's close but not the same. It has a few DS18B20 inputs, but not a 1wire bus "per se", it also has a few digital inputs, but I have not seen any counter inputs (which are quite useful if you want to monitor flow/energy). On the other side it has more analog inputs and also digital outputs and a certain amount of programmable logic inside so it cand act as a sort of controller, which the WEL cannot. At the price it sure seems a very nice thing to play with.

hi,

You don't say what it is you want to monitor. I looked at the WEL unit - but I was mainly interested in logging electricity consumption and NET energy flow so I went for the 7 channel Brultech ECM1240 - it was also cheaper.
