Anybody know the rules with regard to roc's and rhi on refurbished equipment. I know the rules have been amended for refurbished hydro equipment but would it apply to refurbished biomass equipment. ie new boiler but refurbished steam engine ??.
Equipment all in the 150kw to 400kw range so commercial install.

Just giving this a bump as I am struggling to find an answer and really need to know where I stand before getting onto ofgem. Client is already receiving Roc's for his own internal generation although reduced by a percentage due to the timber not being 100% virgin. Looking to now connect to grid and also claim RHI but equipment is second hand so would it be eligible. As an alternative the steam boiler is on its last legs and will need replacing in the future but normally due to cost a refurbished 2nd hand boiler would have been installed but new could be an option if we could guarantee RHI without having to renew the rest of the systems ie steam engine and condenser.

Only new kit is eligible under the RHI.

Quote
Only new equipment (or where it is completed and first commissioned on or after the 15th July 2009 and the equipment was new at the point of commissioning) will be eligible for the RHI. The tariffs have been calculated on the basis of the installed costs of new equipment. While we recognise that new equipment may not always be the most efficient way of utilising a renewable resource where conversion of existing equipment is an option, we do not have sufficient evidence at present to incorporate it into the scheme. Many conversions at the large scale will be highly bespoke and it is difficult to classify what would be eligible and calculate the appropriate level of incentive. However, we will gather evidence and consider further whether and how conversion could be made eligible for the RHI in future.
