Hi All
Just received my latest purchase.
It is a vintage tweed suit - made in savile row. fits me as good as an off the peg (which are rare for me at 6 ft 5 in.)
I am really impressed with the quality of cloth and tailoring. the condition is pretty good. lots of years left in this suit as smarts.
I hate to think what it would cost new. yet it was not much money at all.
am i weird in seeing true value in this?

Not alone there, many of my / daughter's / wife's Lowe fleeces, & other clothing are all via Ebay as second hand purchases, why pay £60 - £90 for a fleece when you can pay £8 - £22.
Factory shop bargains, lay-by shoe seller near Bedford I used to by Caterpillar boots from too. I often look via ebay to get a handle on how much an item will go for when Izzy has outgrown it, we sell her Hunters for around if not more than we pay new!
Folk buy too much & shovel much of it out the door in sheer desperation rather than teaching quality not quantity.
to put this in context, kids at Izzys school typically have 3 or more sets of thin (far from warm) tesco jumpers, & will go through many in a school year. Izzy has now 3 Low alpine fleeces (only 1 in "recommended" school colour) ..they all fit & will for a further year, such is the nature of fleeces (when looked after properly in the wash) ..all via ebay 2nd hand or beyond.. £9.00 total for 3yrs wear, safe in the knowledge it's a decent technical fabric that works. unless she spills something really gruesome down them then all will be bought afterwards by likeminded folk!
She can & will wear them out as she places the quality & warmth first & foremost (thank god). Kids live in hand me downs / outgrown's, when do we get it into our heads that it's not cool? ..theres a certain pride in long lasting quality you can wear every day.

good luck with your new purchase bar and no,,you are not the slightest bit weird. years ago when i worked in the south of england,i did the rounds of the boot fairs, boxley hill, featherby road and so on,one of the pecularities was the abundance of good leather coats, carrying the best name brands going.my kids were young at the time anyhow i could not resist buying these leather fleeces and full length coats, for both men and women.i had no outlet but i just could not pass them by at £4 or£5 a throw.they were all immaculate and i stored them away. the years went by and the kids grew up and they found the leather coats where i had left them stored away.fleeces by julian vard, etc. one fantastic coat which was made in china,(i bet paul is laughing his head off right now)ended up being worn by my eldest daughter as she studied her way through imperial in london, ironically it got stolen at a party, she watched this lad put it on and walk out the door, she though he was playing a joke, but no ,she never saw it again.however dad to the rescue and the chinese leather coat which my daughter missed so much was replaced by a full length black calf leather coat which she said she would never let it out of her sight. the thing was,i knew a bit about leather coats.i knew the good stuff,i knew the value of them and fashion is so fickle i knew there would come a time when these works of art would be back in demand and i was right.the worst looking coat i ever bought was a dark brown leather jacket of the softest leather, the pockets were where they should be and it fitted like a glove,it was scuffed but not torn or damaged.once i put it on i had to buy it,i paid £2 for it,i gave the woman what she asked for it,it was her hubbies,he had run off with the babysitter,it was a jacket for making money and so it did,i wore it working all over germany and england.i still have it somewhere but it is well scuffed now. there are bargains to be had. biff

I've a fine tweed jacket brogues and a kilt Bar, what size are you, you can have them for the price of the postage. The kilt was made by Lochcarron weavers and the shoes definitely not in China Cheers, Paul
