we have a bit of a storm at the moment,
the controller is reading 130volts x 25amps,the blades are invisible apart from the first 9" out from the hub, between the furling and the eloctro-brake the system is kept nicely in control. the halogen fires are on in the house and the load is set to keep the controller from getting to hot,it is already warm to touch but that was because i was a bit late getting my act together and turning on the halogensand balancing the load.
it at times like these that i wished i had gone and altered the furling to the same as agarians, yet despite the speed and big wattage the system seems sound and stable.i put this down to balancing the blades to perfection,(thanks to advice i gleaned on navitron).
sadly it is not everyone who can take in this information, down in clare they run a school for budding turbineers,it is actually advertising on "done deal"and utube, lo and behold i see the instructor adding weights to the blades while it is attached to the lump,so i rang him a 10 minutes ago and tried to explain that the way he was going about balancing the blades was a hit and miss affair.well "eddie" laughed long and hard at me and explained that he had been doing this for 5 years.he was still laughing when he hung up on me. his 3 day course costs in excess of 300euros which is not out of this world but for a little bit of sense,,sense to listen,he could improve things for everyone and create a better chance for success.

Yeah  great wind down South here too and sunny spells for PV  and lots of rain for the hydroturbine

Good bit of wind here too.

Looks like we will get 48hrs.

All my 3.7m dia lot cruising at 30a 54v each, reaching 40a and furling. Funny thing is, they all furl at different times so they all seem to be doing a jolly dance.
House running on everything. Although her indoors just switched the kettle on 2.2kw and i have 1.8kw of underfloor heating on plus all lighting circuits, but the inverter coped.  whistlie

Best wishes biff, I trust you are not up your pole trying to tame your beast. ?

Must get me a walkable around meter (radio type) to keep an eye on the battery voltages, saves me having to pop down to the library and study the meter there. In these winds its a game having to match battery voltage to load on the inverter, ie "more power Scotty".

Are you dumping only on the AC Side ?

Hi billi,
No, can dump DC to PWM heaters on a trolley 6 off at 1kw each in the house, but as you know PWM has a horrible noise. And in these windy conditions i would rather use the inverter and the designed normal AC loads.

I like to keep the 600amp batteries about 52.5v so they are allways charged, i never let them drop below 48v. DC dump loads kick in when all turbines get the battery strings up to 56.7v.

hi billi,
yes i am dumping on the ac with halogen fires,
no clockman,i am not up the pole at the moment. it has calmed down a bit now and the halogens are off.the battery bank has had a good boost,it was sitting up at 138volts for a good hour so there would have been a bit of bubbling in all the right places.
the halogens are cute little fellows, they have 3 stages, which work to a total of 1200watt,so we have two of these but only have each on two bars, dumping about 1500watts of heat into the house, while everything else is running as well.this way the controller stays cool.it whispers and breathes deeply but dont get hot under the collar.

Here its a AC 1 kw Heater  that i use as a dump for my  Wind Turbine,   starts dumping above 30 volt  regulated by the Inverter and stops the heater at about 26.5 volt

But the turbine will not achieve  that   voltage  on its own  (too small )

So the PV controllers regulate the right Battery charge  and a mix of PV and Wind is  dumped in that 1 kw  AC heater  and the rest of the PV will just be left outside at the panels while finish the charge   ( the more or less ....depending on wind amps)

Should  really get more crazy ideas put into reality how to use surplus , but ....

Been blowing hard here in the S.E. as well for the last 36 or so hours. My FE048 (1kW 48V) has churned out over 18kWh in that time. The wind peaked at 56mph around 6 this evening but its dying down now.  Can't say we've seen much of the sun though, only 15kWh hours in the last 2 days and 12.5kWh of that was yesterday.
