Just a quick query. I have installed a new thermal store, I am now down to lagging the pipework around it.

are there any clever options here, or should I just go and buy a bundle of foam pipe insulation from the diy store ?

thanks.

You might want to have a quick look at this thread...

...and also consider building a lightweight box around the whole thermal store & nearby pipework, then filling it wth vermiculite (or similar)...  less joints in the insulation to worry about!

personally I'd lag the pipes and build the box....

for info.... My fathers hot water cylinder is in an airing cupboard with none of the pipes lagged. The cylinder is 125Litres and has around 30mm foam sprayed insulation. He was using around 0.5 cu ft of gas a day for hot water. I lagged all the pipes and stuffed the cupboard with loft insulation (recycled plastic stuff from B&Q). The gas consumption has dropped to around 0.35 cu ft per day, a reduction of a 1/3rd.

just goes to show how much heat is lost though pipe and the cylinder.
