so, turned off the rayburn this morning, tonight theres hardly any hot water to be had after nil usage all day.

I know I have not yet lagged the pipe work around the store, but can that really explain the rapid loss of heat ?

Sorry to be negative buy you will not get a reply to such a vague statement !!
What thermal store , how big , how hot , heated by what , heated when, what make , previous history, previous performance etc , etc etc

I'll make one comment.

The boiler in your Rayburn can also absorb heat at the same rate that it can supply it.

During the summer our TS could not get over 55c when heated via the solar thermal tubes.

The Rayburn was hot to the touch in the fire box & warm all over. We did find a solution but its not exactly to spec.

in a word, yes.  get it lagged before worrying, at least it will concentrate your mind now...
