Would anyone care to quote me for a Sunnyboy Webbox with Bluetooth
Supply of this unit is outside my agreement with my chosen supplier so I can purchase from elsewhere if I want.
Anyone?
Sean

You can purchase one for £440 inc VAT and free delivery from SavingEnergyOnlineWhich really isn't bad, someone on here who knows wholesalers could maybe get you one for £420(inc VAT), but the boxed weight is just short of 2kg, so Royal Mail Express Special Delivery insured at £500 is £9.05. That takes it to £429.05, and then they have to drive to the post-office to post it to you with no markup. Google Shopping shows the £440 inc VAT and free delivery to be a really good fair price. You didn't state which SMA inverter you have, as most SunnyBoy inverters do not have built in bluetooth, but I am guessing you may have a 4000TL.

Why not use Sunny Explorer and upload your data to pvoutput.org using PVBeanCounter?
All for free and simple to setup.

Free and simple, but not fire and forget in terms of you can just view your data, not first extract all that you need. Don't get me wrong, the csv methods are great, but to me too time consuming. Especially if you want to build extra reports thus requiring extra fields to make sure are included. ( my plant with 17 pages)

I don't have any inverter at the moment - but I do have plans for a 4000TL. Installation probably in November Sean

Do people really spend £440 to monitor small PV installations (4 kW and under)? If so why? What info. is that useful that it can justify this expenditure?

Well - I am looking at different ways of monitoring the PV plant I am spending £13,000 on. Options I am looking at:
Mounting the Inverter where I can get to it easily to get readings from Sunnybeam Sunny Explorer Sunny Webbox
Ideally data will be available automatically 24*7 without me having to remember to download/upload the information. When I have all the costs I can make a decision

Sean to me they seem to come across as expensive gadgets..............I genuinely wonder what info. it can give that would be useful to me (after living with my 3.96 kWp system for 14 months)..............most systems are fixed and I cannot think of anything on the inverter I could tweak to improve performance...........bottom line is does the PV array generate what it is forecast to do?

Yes I too cannot understand why you would spend hundreds of pounds for a webbox when for not much effort you can achieve a similar level of monitoring for free. We had a system installed on Monday and I have set up an old laptop with Sunny Explorer and PVBeanCounter automatically uploading to pvoutput.org and get the following stats.... http://pvoutput.org/intraday.jsp?id=4768&sid=3764What more could you want and for free?

It's currently set to sleep at 7pm and wake at 7am. These settings are made in the PVBeancounter application. It is also possible to upload the days statistics in one hit if you are not bothered about a 'live' feed. The would mean that the laptop doesn't need to stay switched on.

I have a VMWare Host with guests running 24*7 but getting serial comms or bluetooth to work on the guest can be a bit fraught

I have a Sunny Webbox with my 2.16kw install, it was a option from my installer over the sunny bluetooth desk top which was free with install, the Sunny Webbox was a £150 upgrade which I am very happy with, I can also check all is OK with my Iphone free Sunny Portal app which will also alerts me if there are any problems with my solar system regarding power failure etc
