MCS certified for solar PV

« on: October 03, 2011, 10:36:52 PM »

Alright lads,

Just wondering what you think of the Aurora inverters. I haven't used one on a job before but have a customer at the minute who's insisting on one for his 3.25KWp system (13 x Sharp NU250's).

Thinking of the PVI-3.0

Have only owned one for 5 days but so far very pleased. Easy to view pv volts/ ac volts/ current etc.
Has nice easy to retrieve history - shows daily yield / total etc
Can put your own currency and FIT in to show money earnt etc.
Very quiet- no fan.
Has done 95kWh in 4.5 days from 3.8kw installed.
rgds George.
ps -installer preferred them to sma because he says they connect quicker and produce less errors!

Have one on my 3.96 kWp PV array (two strings) since July 2010 and generated 4.5 MWh to date with no errors and agree with ecogeorge - that said not sure how to judge an inverter really - I guess only time will tell.

Inverter: Power One PVI-3,6-OUTD-UK
Same model here. In use for just over a year now. So far as I, an end-user, not an installer, can tell it seems to be a fine piece of kit.

Ditto. Just coming up to 1MW, it lacks bluetooth but that (minor detail) aside it just sits there and does what it says on the tin.

I think they are a good inverter easy to install.  To me they are a few hundred pounds cheaper than say a 4000TL. but you can put a wireless card in them (they have built-in RS485 & USB) and it is proper wireless with a 300m range not Bluetooth with a theoretical range of 100m.  The Aurora desktop display is also colour rather than the black and white of the Sunny Beam and to my eye has a little bit of Italian style compared to the German functionality.

The efficiency  of the Aurora 3.0 with arround 96 %  is not great compared to others over 97 or even 98 % , but cannot tell how much that matters

If you changed the question to ask about SMA inverters, I am sure that you would get an equally complementary set of answers.

The real test will be in 10 years time when failures might begin to occur.
