exhappy:agreed, we would never install the rail like this either for this array angle. I would ask for these to be removed and correctly installed.

Other-Power,
I have contacted my installer and here is there response:

" we did your installation before this technicality about clamping on the short end was made known to us. We are looking into it now. I have passed the issue on to our technical department who will be in touch. "

can anyone out there comment on how long this has been a 'known issue'?  I will of course give them every opportunity to correct any problems.

I have known this since mid 2010 when we started using the panels.

Chaps,
just to update you on this matter.  I have spoken with my Installer and they are "awaiting a response on clarification from Sanyo" about mounting HIT-H series panels in Landscape orientation on the 'short-edge'.  I don't know if anyone out there has a number or contact details for Sanyo Solar in the UK where I can this conformation myself?
I would like to see this resolved as apparently my installer says it is a "Grey-Area" for installers, not the impression I've got from feedback here......

I thought this was general practice on any panel whether it be Sanyo or any other manufacturer of panel.

Good luck with it though but personally i would try my hardest to get the installer to change to fixing arrangement.

It is not a grey area at all provided you read the installation instructions for the panel.  The ones I have read have been perfectly clear.  Generally they say mount on long side only and the define permissible clamping areas.  Hyundai 250s (unusually) say mount on long or short side.

Thanks guys, for pointing out the problems with my panel installation. An update on my situation, my installer has agreed to correct the problem by 'cross-railing' the brackets (we are currently using the 'K2' bracket system) so that the panels are fixed against their long-side.

Quote:
"....will alter the railing layout, so that the fixings will clamp to the panels along their long-edge, in keeping with the ‘General Installation Manual’. "

This will be done at no charge (of course).  They are going to ensure that the height (inc. panels) stays within the 200mm limit provided under PD for Planning Regs and allows the relevant clearance under the panels for cooling.
