Hi all
I have been tasked with running the "Hamster Project" for BCA.
The idea is that the children take it in turns to take home an Electisave meter each to monitor and raise awareness of energy useage around the home. and then colate the findings with the chidren.
the prject is to be rolled out next week at Hennok County Primary School at a school assembly to raise intrest.
At the moment i am trying to produce som kind of homwork package so open to any suggestions on general  monitoring or layout ideas.
thanks Smiley

might be an idea to introduce the concept of Economy7'/economy10 electricity and why it is cheaper. Get the kids to work out what proportion of their electricity they use during off-peah hours and how much during peak hours - this will highlight the reason for the lower rate. You could then ask them to try rearranging their electricity use (eg dishwasher and washing machine turned on at bedtime) to see how things alter. Even if you are not on an Economy electricity tarriff, if everyone tried to spread their electricity load more evenly it would reduce National Grid peak loads.

The other children should be recording their daily gas and electricity readings from the domestic meter as a wider data collection effort. I have a web based little app somewhere for recording this sort of stuff.
