I had a look at the Homebase offer, but it was £5 per roll for 170mm, while B&Q had 200mm for £3. Does anyone know how much of a difference it makes? My energy performance certificate listed the loft insulation as 100mm but it looked a lot thinner than that, perhaps it was been squashed over the years. House was built in 1949. I put the 200mm insulation on top of the rock wool original (horrible, itchy stuff).

The older fibreglass does seem to sink down over time. Whether today's is any different well ask in 20 years.
The rolls are close to the same volume when expanded so the thicker version is covering slightly less. The levels of subsidy are a bit variable so it is difficult to compare on price but the performance (R or U values) are the same. The extra 30mm is 15% which is big enough to be significant but whether it is financially viable is another calculation.

Currently £1 a roll from NPower!  You don't have to be an NPower customer either (I'm not). I've ordered 30 rolls a couple of weeks ago for our refurb project - half at 100mm and half at 170mm to give us the 270mm (well doh!) required for the whole loft.  Cost me £30 and that includes delivery!  If I can find the link again and it's still running I'll post it here, but I heard about it  from a web site called Martins Money Saving Tips.   http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/money-tips-email-faqs

This may have now gone. I saw this on MoneySavingExpert early Nov and got 19 rolls for £1 each, included free delivery & goggles. nPower were promoting it and Wolseley delivered about 2 weeks after placing the order (Guy said they were so busy with the offer they had to hire extra vans to do the deliveries).

Looks like the offer is now £3 / roll http://www.npower.com/Home/Energy-efficiency/Home-insulation/DIY-loft-insulation/index.htm

I note that these offers allow a maximum of 99sq m.  The property I'm buying has a loft area of approx 170sq m.  Presume they log the address this is being used for, and you can only qualify the once?

They never asked for any name or address details at B&Q when I bought mine. I went with my dad and he bought some things from the trade counter for work, but he said I had to go to the ordinary tills to pay for the insulation, as it was for my own house and as the subsidy doesn't apply to trade and the trade price is a LOT higher.
