Still getting pish wet, but this time it's rain and sweat and not water at 6bar  Roll Eyes

The 800m of 2.5mm SWA arrived on Saturday courtesy of Hugh at http://scoraigwind.com/ cheap as anywhere on the net and not stung with the carriage  Cool

Of course it does help if you know a man with a digger  Grin

First job was to knock up a cable reel holder for the 2 x 400m reels

Good to have cheap labour  whistlie

Though sometimes I do question my sanity

Contrary to popular belief a quad will not go anywhere  sh*tfan

And sometimes you just have to resort to pulling by hand  Cry

I'm pure fecked but that's half of the cable laid  bike

Great fun this hydro malarky  Roll Eyes

Do you have an inverter sorted, I can put you in touch with a sma 1100 for £310 ex vat and delivery, would be on the money if you set it for constant voltage input.

The turbine seems very noisy in the video, would be intrested to hear the difference after the modification in jet location.

What voltage will you be running the unit, if you have 10 volt drop you can alwys run at ~400 SC in and let the cable drop give you soem safty margin.

Good work though, how many kWh are you making a day from all 4 turbines now?

Cheers

Morning Chaps,

5:30am and I can't wait to get back out there but it won't be light enough for over two hours  fume

I would have been well interested Jonathan but sorted with a Windy Boy now.

I'll run it by 'One who knows'  genuflect but I think it's all set up and very 'site specific' at 385v

It is a boodly racket isn't it chaps, perhaps I'll do a video of altering the jets because it's quite interesting to watch the splash pattern on the casing as well as listen to the change in tone.

Cheers, Paul

I'm sure you have already seen this re Pelton wheels
but might give you a few tips as to how to optimise http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelton_wheel

Just for future, if anyone is reading this, SMA Sunnyboys can be set to wind turbine mppt or constant voltage, the TL and HF series will not do wind mppt as far as I can see.  Just need a service cable.

Paul,

Great work, that is a far bit of power you have there now, have you plans to run a heat pump from it?

Cheers

Paul,

My chinese turbine is sounding very rough. I assume the bearings are done and I had no success when trying to remove the runner when the machine was new so I'm planning to scrap it and get something that's better engineered.

I'm attracted to the powerspout because of the price and the fact that they do a grid tie version.

Noise might be an issue (my turbine shed is very close to my house) but I'm sure I can do a soundproofing job around the turbine.

Have you discovered any other negative aspects of the powerspout?

Cheers,

Malcolm

Morning Malcolm, did you see my post on overhauling my Navitron unit http://lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/xj14-0-2dct4-z/

The first thing was to remove the turgo runner which is secured to the 15mm shaft by two M6 bolts accessed by a 10mm socket through the jet hole. With these two bolts removed you can draw off the runner by screwing an M10 x 75mm bolt into the threaded end of the steel runner. Or at least you should be able to, mine was so tight that the bolt sheared and I had to re tap it

I'm thinking that yours will be the same but perhaps M8

Anyway, back to the Powerspout, I'm thinking that you heard the noise on my video which is pretty loud, http://lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/2011/11/13/powerspouts-a-goer/ strangely enough it is now much quieter  Huh I'm very pleased with it and all the backup available but it's not yet been commissioned properly so can't really comment on its performance. Dunno how it compares with a Stream Engine for price and efficiency but the the SE is certainly much quieter and better engineered.

The beauty of the Powerspout is in its simplicity, weather resistance (it needs no shelter) and price, a fine bit of kit  Cool

Good luck, Paul

Ah. That's how it's done. Thanks for the tip - I'll give it a go next time the burn runs dry.
