Living and loving life near Carcassonne!!

« on: June 17, 2007, 08:57:59 AM »

I am awaiting the delivery, hopefully Tuesday, of a 30 X 58mm panel and the bits to go with it. One of the bits is a 170.000 BTU stainless heat exchanger for our pool. Can anyone tell me what the size of the input/output connectors please. This is my first excursion into Navitron kit and I am looking forward to it. The system is only to heat our pool. We already have a solar water system, about 18 or so years old. Still very good and normally we turn the immersion heater off at the beginning of May till the end of October. Today may be an exception because of heavy cloud.

Thank you for the posts and tips on instalation. They have been very helpful and the most importaint one probably is the one for the clips on the bottom of the tubes. It's a long way if I break any!!!! Down to the South of France....

I have a few spare cups/clips/tubes just over the border near Sanremo if you're really stuck....

Thank you Roger,

I take it that you don't know the connector sizes?? I am hoping that they are 40mm, the same size as the pool plastic plumbing. If they are smaller I think that I will need to put a small by-pass pipe around the heat exchanger to maintain the same flow through the system. I have a water turnover time of about 3.8 hours and I don't want it to be any more than that...

No, sorry. I don't have a heat-exchanger, just a simple open loop pumped system with the pool water going thorugh the solar panel manifold, but we keep our chlorine levels to the minimum, so I'm hoping that any corrosion will be a slow process !

Spare I have are for the solar panel itself which is what I thought you meant...

For the panel is exactly what I thought you meant.. I'm getting old 'cause it isn't 40mm it's 50.

You should be keeping the chlor level at 3ppm or close really, but the main problem is when you have to shock the system and then the levels go up to 10ppm or so. I have had to do that just over a week ago after we had some big storms. Apparently there were a lot of green pools after them. The level is only just getting back to normal.

I tried to find Sanremo on my map, but failed miserably. Is it close to Barcelona??

Now I am completely confused - the manifold copper connectors are 22mm...

Thanks for the tip on the chlor level - we get a red algae here, had to shock it a couple of weeks back, but otherwise we are fairly lucky...

Sanremo is in Italy, not Spain !  Having lived in the "south of France" I always think of it as being the Cote d'Azur area between Nice and the Esterelly, but it really goes a lot further west - I guess you're near the Spanish border ?

I will try to un-confuse (that will make a change for me  Grin).

The heat exchanger will have 4 ports. 2 for the hot water from the panel and 2 for the water for the pool. If they are all 22mm then the 2 for the pool will restrict the flow through the filter and slow down the water filter rate, because the pipe size will have to come from 50mm (outside dia) to 22mm. Sorry for the confusion...

I must admit that my Italian geography is nearly as bad as my spelling. We are about 1 1/2 hours from the Spanish border, about 100 miles due South I suppose.. An hour from the Med. Not far from the lovely city of Carcassonne, in the Minervois wine growing area. All this wine and so little time!!

I have just been doing some diagrams of what I will need for the fitting of the panel and bits. It's going to be mounted at ground level on a slight slope against the South wall of our summer kitchen/pool pump room. So the pipe runs will only be a few feet.

The hot water connections on the heat exchanger will be 1" bsp

and the pool circuit connectors i think are 1.5"

The brass to plastic connectors are very expensive cost me about £50 for the pair on the last one we did.

The kit has arrived in the depot at Carcassonne and should be here this afternoon, please. But, big problem! It looks like someone has left the boxes of tubes in a china shop and let a bull loose. I have seen the mess and would guess that one pf the 3 boxes has no complete tubes in it and the other 2 have some broken tubes in each Shocked... At least the frame looks as if it survived? The shipping company has unpacked the crate that the kit was in and looks like they have been throwing everything about?

I wait with baited breath??? Roll Eyes Roger, I don't think your offer of a tube or 2 would cover this   Grin Grin
