It's certainly wild here in Perthshire. We have had some very strong winds since midday. Power outs too, but no problem there, as dinner of haggis, tatties, boiled carrots, steamed broccoli are simmering away on the woodburner as I scribe this posts. Just got the gravy to do now, so better go and stir it as I don't want any lumps. Beer is chilling in a bucket of snow outside.
If the power outs again, then it will be a candle lit dinner. Who says romance is dead?  Grin

it has been very rough all day, early yesterday morning was tough enough,we had an ice shower for about 10 minutes with lightening and all the stage effects only this was for real and my baby did not quite come through unscathed,, the blade ends have been sanblasted,,or should i say ice blasted and the last 300mm of each blade has been worn right through to the inside. i have not had time to examine the lump but i suspect that the lightening fried the sliprings,it turns without any bad noises, the geni also too a hit but it is still charging on the clocks but not delivering anything to the output socket9(something simple,,a fuse),so we are now running on geni no 2 which is only 3kw but very economical.
our big flatscreen lost the sound for an hour or so but came back on,on its own,
our turbine served us well and was pushed way beyond what it was designed for, often delivering way over 3.5kw to the symmetra ups, our new baby will be much reduced in speed with a new tail which will furl at a lower rpm,the controller will also be updated to redirect dc 120 to  imersion heaters in stages of different voltages which will make life easier for everyone.
in the few years since we installed this turbine i have learned a lot.i am greatfull for all the help i got here on navitron.we are assured of one thing and that is,,it is indeed possible to live comfortably off grid between solar and wind and good managment.we seldom use our generator and fuel costs were buttons.we look forward to getting the new baby up and running soon.

Take care, Paul

Peak gust here was 82mph, with a peak 10 minute average of 66mph.

I had to nip out to secure a wobbling deer fence post with some temporary guy's. Quite difficult to stand up while doing that. Later the tarp ripped on an absent neighbours pile of kingspan, so I nipped round to secure that (one sheet - or rather bit of it had already hopped over our house and got stuck in the eddy behind, and 2 more were acting as a sail on her deer fence). I was much relieved when I got the 'sails' down flat  and all sheets secured - insulation is very light but I'm not sure what would have happened if a sheet had hit our already stressed windows (you could see the mullions moving!).

Power off for just over 20 hours.

However all settled now. No significant damage for us, just a bit of water ingress around those flexing window frames. Sadly several other houses in the village didn't escape so lightly...

It is very reassuring that none of our customers in Inverness have called to say they have any wind damage to their PV panels  snow
