It's now 6 weeks since the first firing, and she's doing the job. It has replaced my home built stove inside, but I have left it in place as a back up. It's situated 30 meters from the house, but has no problem sending the hot water coursing round the radiators and hot water tank. No more dust and smoke in the house! I am concerned with it's power requirements, about 150 watts with the fan and two pumps. I have two low energy pumps on the way, so they should help.I do most of the burn during the day when the sun is out, heating 2000 litres of water to 90 degrees. This lasts through until the next day. One heaped barrow full of logs at the moment, rather resiny pine, but it seems to cope. Hoping for some RHI next year! Here's a couple of pics.

Sounds like very good output from a barrowfull of logs.

Very interested to hear of your experiences with this Mike. What make is it?

We've just had a similar boiler installed, and we are off grid too. Not fully connected up yet, so do not know how power demands will be. Might be interested in low energy pumps when you have any details.

Perhaps , just in-case, someone searches for a Christmas present for you , something  can be find here for your off grid  hot flue pipe

Dave, Mine is the Angus Orlingo. 40 kw feeding a 2000 litre store. Unfortunately, no room inside the house for the tank, but it doesn't seem to loose any heat. I think it would be possible to run it with a natural draft and gravity feed the heat up to the house, but for now it has to stay as it is until this whole RHI thing is sorted! Nice piece of kit, billi, but no prices! I'll have another look. The gasification process is pretty remarkable, instead of black smoke (normal burn), no smoke in gasification mode. two photos taken 1 minute apart, one in normal mode, the other in gasification.

My wife really really wants to go to one of these systems.  Can I ask roughly how much it cost?

I can't believe the prices we've been quoted, about £25K.  (OK that's for an ETA boiler (other makes about £3K less) and includes internal radiators (5 ish)) but still even with £950 off for the RHPP the RHI would have to offer serious cash to pay this back... and then the issue of reliable dry log supply!

BTW 2000 ltrs at 90c every day seems a lot? We've been suggested a 20 - 25kw boiler and 1000-1500 ltr tank and firing every other day in winter, every 4th in summer?

Andrew,   our system (see pic above)  was just under £12k installed.  That was for 25kW boiler, 1500l Akvaterm tank + expansion tank & plumbing.

The Angus super with 2000 liter Acvaterm, valves etc is £6375. You still need chimney and pipe work, 5% vat and plumber for a day. Light and Land energy put our in. Now waiting for some rhi later in the year!

Thanks guys,

had a couple of quotes, one for "bare bones" system that would require me to fit my own radiators/internal works, based on an Eco-Angus with HS in a shed and a twin coil tank in the house.  Came to about £15K,  the other "high quality" option based on an ETA SH20 (which has come highly recommended) and including internal stuff to fit 5 rads/towel rail and a fancy duct heater for our under-performing ASHP
Quote
ETA and 1000 l tank   9544.00
Heat main 462.00
Flue 1453.00
Materials Pipe fittings/ radiators... 2611.08
Labour 6990.00

+vat. so about 22K plus a bit for contingency.

We would get 950 RHPP , but I wonder if the RHI will ever happen and if it does will it require some crazy particulate filters that will double the cost.  Do you have your own wood supply?
