Well, if you thought mine http://www.navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php/topic,15618.0.html or Heinz's saga http://www.navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php/topic,15547.0.html was an epic, well it's nowt compared to a good mate of mines on Raasay. He phoned me up last night asking if I could probably assist him with my Land Rover and winch  Roll Eyes

None of your piddling 90mm or 110mm pipe here, this is serious stuff, 200mm plus and 13mm thick in 50m lengths, 6 of them  Shocked

and they all had to be dragged up from the shore

one at a time and very slowly

of course that was after they'd been towed 18 miles from the mainland by another mates fishing boat.

It may seem like allot of effort but this stuff was cheaper than chips  Grin

and we even managed to get it across the road  hysteria  hysteria

Looking at the pics, I would not trust your satnav. Follow the path and end up in the sea!!

Any fish farm,

usually a couple of bottles of whisky does the trick, though you may have to pay as much as 1GBP per meter for the 250mm stuff  Grin

Though collection can sometimes be an issue

1000m 90mm = 1 'low flyer' (local slang for Famous Grouse)  Grin

Of course if you're no where near the sea then there's always 'Scottish Water' or your equivalent

470m of 63mm FOC

or there must be some big building project nearby

http://lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/2011/03/16/do-not-try-this-at-home-2/

1.6Km of 50mm FOC

 Grin

Good luck, Paul

Hi Camillitech,

What is the head and flowrate of the installation and has he figured out which turbine he is going for?

Is he going hire a friction welding machine for jointing the 4" pipe lengths?

Morning DTL,

The flow is extremely variable but the head is 32m I think, and the turbine is a custom built cross flow one. The pipe is 10" and he got a fusion welder off eBay for buttons, in fact he got two  Shocked When I was looking for one last year they were like rocking horse pooh but apparently they now have to be 'certified' or something for doing utility work and few of the older ones are. The 4" pipe is mine and I used compression fittings, not too bad as they were in 80m lengths and only 11GBP each. However if I have any more issues with 'vacuum' leaks I'll weld some.

Cheers, Paul
