It took the Swiss several centuries to learn how daft war is - we haven't yet learnt that simple lesson so what chance realising Nuclear power is utterly futile, when most of the UK population is indoctrinated by a 'National Corruption' in state schools (as some more enlightened parents put it) and people are being taught to think of the long term as 7 or 8 years? Earning and shopping is the God, so what if future generations are cancer-riddled and deformed?

That report doesn't make much sense.   The  effect of radiation at distance, if anything,  would be  to  increase  the incidence of  thyroid cancer.   It isn't necessarily fatal because the symptoms are so   obvious  at an early stage that the thyroid is usually removed before it spreads.      Thyroid specialists  are going to be busy in Japan for a  long time.

It wasn't just the  power stations and their surrounds that  were  unsafe places.   There were forty tsunami  refuges that were completely covered in water and all the people directed  to go there were drowned.     It  has shaken a country out of it's complacency.   In many ways it was like the sinking of the Titanic a century earlier  that  made Westerners think more seriously about  safety.

Ingested radiation is the real killer, listen to Helen Caldicott, one of the few high-flying medics who refuses to be silenced by government apparatchiks.
