Beltingly common-sense filled discussion on Newsnight (BBC2) at the momemt, three females. Will be on iplayer tomorrow, no doubt.

edit - just finished, missed most of it meself, looking for one of the terriers  banghead  One of the comments was about the UK's poor investment in green issues and renewables. Much sense spoken throughout. Refreshing change to hear intelligence and common sense on the tv.

Funny to hear Deborah Meaden complain that in the UK we have always been after too quick a return on our investments, well in that case..........................................................I'm out.

I've always thought that women take a much simpler, and common sense approach to most problems. Rather than standing in the way of the tide, whilst their socks get wet, as many stubborn men are doing, they nip home and spend some money on wellies.

Best description on the difference between men and women I've ever heard;

When the first Porsche 911 came out (the arse-engined car), it was fun but dangerous with so much weight behind the rear wheels.

MEN have spent 40 years adjusting, correcting, perfecting the car, attacking each and every obstacle preventing it from being practical, and finally after nearly half a century, triumph, the car is extremely capable and a testament to what MEN can achieve.

WOMEN - would have moved the engine in year 2, then got on with all the other jobs they have to do.

What was the program actually about?

Nudism & even public beachwear should be restricted by law to females under 30 & not over weight.

"If shopping slows down, does the UK economy have anything else?"  "While the boom lasted,  if manufacturing and exports shrank, it didn't matter as long as rising house prices kept the consumer confident and spending, the economy would grow." Andrew Verity considers whether the British economy will ever wean itself off shopping and the City.

Professor Mariana Mazzucato http://bit.ly/xnoJBR "What matters isn't how much manufacturing but the quality of the product", "it would be absolutely mad not to focus on the renewable energies"
Tory MP Elizabeth Truss http://www.elizabethtruss.com/ "What can't last is that people in other countries with higher skills earn less", "I don't think we realise how serious the issue is with our education system"
Gillian Tett from the FT http://www.leighbureau.com/speaker.asp?id=461  "dangerous job market polarisation in the UK", "Britain has to rediscover its enterpreneurial spirit"
and Deborah Meaden http://www.deborahmeaden.com/ "problem is the short-term society...we need a long term plan"

chaired by Emily Maitliss - the latest of a series of Newsnight all-female debates.
