Does anyone know what size motor is in dyson bladeless fans. http://www.dyson.co.uk/fans/fans.aspJust thinking a dyson fan on front of a venturi wind turbine would get over the low wind speed performance maybe powered by pv cells on the ring http://www.venturiwind.com/

I wonder if there is high frequency noise from it that affects dogs. If the vacuum numbers in my local recycling skip is anything to go by there will be a lot of them in there in a few months.

One way to avoid being a Dyson fan is to buy one of their vacuum cleaners. Ten minutes and it is completely clogged up. There are two filters that have to be blown out with a compressor to make it work again.

Dyson has a great history of unnecessary/overcomplex `inventions`- The ballbarrow overcomes the problem of not being able to turn a tight corner with the conventional old fashiond wheelbarrow -something which gardeners have been complaining about for centuries. The cyclonic type of dust extractor has been in use in the woodworking industry since late 1800`s - hardly an `invention`. (and as a few have pointed out, overcomplcated) The Airblade hand dryer is fine as long as you only get wet up to the lower wrist: useless for drying elbows and faces (or warming yourself up after a motorbike ride in winter) The Air multiplier fan seems to have few advantages over an old fashioned bladed fan. Even I, who bears the scars of a fan based incident, think that buying it for the safety aspect alone is not worthwhile. Dyson is a clever guy but I think his talent lies far more in PR than in inventiveness.

The Airblade hand dryer is fine I think the airblade is worse than what it replaces. A major point of hot air dryers is to avoid having to touch anything, to avoid cross-infection risks. With the airblade, its all too easy to get your hand blown/sucked onto the side of the unit. That risk just isn't there at all with a conventional unit.

Especially to be avoided when you hear what some blokes supposedly do with them I was tempted to use the emoticon above, but that's not what I had in mind.

You could have one of these fans blowing against biffs 600w turbine. If the fan 'blows' 15 times more air that's 40w x 15 = 600w. Take 40w to power the fan and vola 560w of freeeeee power !! Genius!!
