For most people, getting the sack is the trigger for a raft of financial worries. Not for Tony Blair. No, the former Prime Minister’s ejection from Downing Street was just the start of a lucrative, money-spinning career.

But despite logging an income of over £12 million across the last financial year, Mr Blair only paid £315,000 in tax.

i am surprised he paid so much in tax. He obviously needs a better accountant.

It's good to see that the ex labour party leader practices what he preaches - rich people should pay a greater percentage of their income than less well-off people. Good to see he's still upholding his core values.

for balance - am sure there'll be a very long list of ex Tory PMs earning good money, also paying an apparently small amount of tax and dining for free

Judging by the last few years' revelations, I don't think you need to wait to be an ex-MP. It also seems to be one issue with almost unanimous cross-party agreement.
