OK it is only -4 but very windy here. I have condensation pouring down the inside of our T&G doors this is tracking through to the outside and freezing. See picture.

The inside of the T&G is only 6c while the rest of the door is at 12c. Other than this the rest rest of the house is nice and toasty Grin

No wind here but still bloody chilly  winter Not looking forward to a day spent in a tin shed. Pause while I check the outside temp.  Laser temp gauge says the house wall is -7, ground -11 and the wall the sun has got to is -5. Wonder how all that relates to air temperature? House isn't really toasty inside yet, about 19 but there's this damn draught which comes from 'somewhere' and chills my feet on the way to the woodstove.

Beautifull morning here,
The sun is spilling all over the place. The animal tracks are frozen solid but there is no hoare or very little white frost. There is a wind about force3.ITs a great morning for the solar arrays.
The house is toasty roasty but it looks like snow to me,lovely dry conditions for a good fall,so its all systems go to stock up on fuel and grub. we can normally keep 3 days supply of fire without going outdoors.

Any joy with ways to keep your feet warm in the shed?

Well, the recycled whisky bag felt insoles have helped and as it's shed work today (old Landrover chassis swap) it's not going to be as cold on the feet as the standing still lathe work. I'm still stalling until the sunrise has hit the shed a bit though...  Grin

This got me thinking about a/ stalling from going outside and b/ finding the damn draught . Perfect day for it as there's no wind outside and there's just me here at the moment. Lit a couple of candles and used them to trace the wind ! from here, not to the utility room where I thought the problem was, but through our room and into the kids room. Found the vent in the closed up fireplace was open. I'm certain I'd taped it shut before? weird. There's no need for it as the vent is just through the plaster and the plaster isn't sealed to the fireplace, so it can draw it's air from under the floor. Anyway, it's behind a chest of drawers, so hauled that out and mega taped it up. Candle flame is still to one side and after much toy moving found a crooked skirting board corner letting the cold in. I'm sure I can justify spending the rest of the day chasing the cold in the warm...  extrahappy

Similar experience with porch roof.

However, that wood burner is going to need to get its air from somewhere. Unless you have put ventilation near to the stove, it's going pull the air from wherever it can.

No matter how well I seal things up, when the wood burner's running there's a draft that comes down the stairs and across the living room floor.

I have been thinking about drilling a hole (3 inches?) through the wall next to the stove and fitting a pipe to near the air intakes, so it gets most of it's air from there, but I can block the pipe when the wind is howling round under the floor. It's an old house which isn't sealed like a modern house, so whatever I do there will always be some air trickling in, nothing wrong with some fresh air IMHO, just not one which causes frostbite in the living room...  freeze
Sealed a heap of wee leaks now and about to stop for soup. Bloody tumble dryer is the next leak, cold air in the vent, up the hose, through the dryer and into the utility room.

Forgot to leave the cold tap on last night, so frozen up this morning, filling bog cistern and hot water tank from stream with bucket, just like old times.
Lovely sunny day though, no wind but plenty of solar.

Heinz

You mentioned you have a laser temp gauge, get the house warm and hunt for the cold spots with it some of these will be draughts.
I like your plan for avoiding the cold workshop Grin

Is the tap on now? I found that leaving the tap on during the day with a frozen pipe will sometimes clear it. Must be a tiny bit of water getting past which melts the blockage?

yeah the taps on, I have tried sucking at the taps in the past but this usually just leads to coughing and fits of giggles from observers.

Whoopie,!!!
Our new solar array hit the 4 amp figure today at 127volt,so pumping in a steady 500watts for at least 3 hours. The ground has stayed frozen solid all day.Outside water tanks have half an inch of ice but it was a good day to get things done.
