I bumped into an old friend on Saturday evening at the BGG - he told me he had no trouble buying a weekend ticket for £20.....!

Hi Ivan & Co,

I was looking at your pictures of the BGG and was wondering how the spiral showers worked  Huh

Mother Nature is a wonderful housekeeper - but eat her out of house and home and you may just get your marching orders.

They have mains water which goes to each of the Tipis. Inside each Tipi, but outside the square shower cubicle in the middle of the Tipi, is a series of 5 or 6 cones which each have a coil of black pipe wound around them, each in series with the last. This enables them to adsorb heat from whichever direction the sun is during the day. The chap said there was a quarter of a mile of pipe, but I think that must be the whole system, not per Tipi. Sufficient hot water was produced for each Tipi to also supply the standalone shower cubicle next to it. I think there was also a backup up wood burner as well.

unfortunately, there may not be any more! - see http://navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1996.0 - follow the links to their site in it, and read up!
I hope that someone has the sense to launch a rescue bid - it is THE foremost green festival, certainly in Europe, possibly the world - to see it sink because of the machinations of a bunch of bureaucratic local government buffoons would be unforgiveable! Wink

I've just received news as a shareholder of the BGG that it has been saved and is in a position to go ahead for the next five years.

I'm not sure how happy they are for me to share the details in the newsletter, so I'll check with them, but I'm sure the news isn't

If you weren't there last year, stick it your diary for this if you can. It was brilliant. (New members may want to read the earlier parts of this thread.)

I've just spoken to Kerry at the BGG. They would rather I didn't publish the whole newsletter, just the good news. The dates are also still undecided as it depends on whether they can get the venue at the full moon (for reasons of luminance rather than anything pagan I guess, but who knows...)

For those of you who found out too late last year and want to reserve the dates in your diaries, the Big Green Gathering will be back on again last year from the 29 July to 02 August.
