My bearings lasted three days..... (I used the same generator in my first version - albeit belt driven from one side).

The trick I used to get the thing apart was to undo the 48 bolts on the largest diameter, on both sides, leaving the rotor inside the stator, just removing the bearing end face plate. No presses needed. Make sure you do it in a clean, non dusty, environment, as swarf will get picked up by the super strong magnets.

Noel how dare you refer to our most prized tree as a "stunted shrub"

Ah Bonsai ! sorry.  I see why you might consider burning telegraph poles though.

how come your trees have grown up vertically yet the stunted shrub under Eleanors  blades of doom, has grown sideways ?  stir

Now that's a proper 'west coast' tree, just like the telegraph pole on the right, most things up here, including phone boxes have a list toward the north east  Grin

thanks adam

I hadn't realised we'd bought a turbine with attitude!  fume

Adam, interesting that yours only hums at high speeds. On the odd occasion Mindy deigns to rotate (0.3 m/s at the moment) she definitely hums and it's quite noticeable at 5 m/s. We haven't really had the opportunity to hear it at 7 m/s when the wind is supposed to be louder than the generator. The blades just make a swishing noise which is fine  Cool

Paul, if you look carefully you may see yourself just to the left of the telegraph pole  Wink

Ahh sorry i thought you meant the noise it made when the brake cuts in  wackoold

The 3m blades are almost silent, and the 1.8m blades do hum a little.

Yes easy Grin a good machine shop or a mate with a good lathe will easly make an adapter Wink Fairly sure the 1.8m hub hakes the 3m blades too.

Hi Adam,
what size of battery bank are you running from the miniwind, or put another way, what size bank  is the miniwind capable of supporting. I know that in terms of chargers the bank should be charged at a minimum of 10% of the capacity, ie 50Amp charger 500 amp battery. How do you size a bank to a turbine?

thanks, Alan
