List,

Every so often Lidls have something useful in their special offers.

From Monday 17th, they are stocking a set of 4, wireless controlled mains sockets, one of which is a lamp dimmer and a transmittter- for just £9.99 the lot!

http://newsletter.lidl.co.uk/c/r?EMID=09500E306TUVT841843HM00FNKSIS

These work on the European standard 433MHz band and have a useful range indoors of about 10m.

I bought a couple of sets 2 years ago and they have been very useful for turning off appliances at the socket - without having to scrabble behind furniture etc.

They are also useful for controlling my thermostatic radiator valves by remotely turning on a small heating resistor element  next to the control valve bulb, when you want the radiator to turn off.

be aware that Lidl are b*****rs with their offers - I saw them advertising some really cheap NIMH batteries, I arrived at my distant "local" store at around midday, to find they'd all gone! Undecided
Upon enquiring as to where they were, I got a rather snotty "you have to be here when we open at 8.30..........." Roll Eyes

Me too - the last one of 30 they'd had at 6:30 this evening. Clare wants to know what I'm going to do with them. I haven't thought that far ahead - I never do with a bargain. I have cupboards full of things like these, you never know when they might come in handy... Smiley

we should definitely have a "most original use " thread - so far I've rigged up a 1kw worklight on one channel that'll scare the living daylights out of the badgers next time they're crashing round the garden, and the kettle on another - tomorrow morning, I can prod the button, and saunter into the kitchen to a boiled kettle! Martin, List

Here are a couple of suggestions for "most original use"

1. Wireless remote Lister  gen-set starter - I really can't be bothered trekking out to the shed on winter mornings  Wink

2. Wireless control of radiator thermostatic valves

3. Automatic turn-of of the TV stack at 3am when the wife's forgotten to.
