cfl
« on: September 24, 2007, 09:52:06 PM »

I installed  5 3watt cfl from blt( at least £4 each)  earlier this year the fittings were ses and were a pain to get hold of,

8 months later lamps are turning pink and giving out poor light output.

Shopping in tesco they have a great range of cfl candle shaped lamps, under £2 each.

light output great.

a pity as blt also supplied me my gu10 lamps to replace the lamps on a track light in my kitchen ,they are great.

Sounds like something has gone wrong with the phosphors. Have the bulbs been used for extended periods? Or at higher or lower than specified voltages?

3watt CFLs? The lowest I have seen previously is 4W. I have some 4W bulbs from IKEA (cheap), which we use as bedside lights. They give off a really nice 'tungsten' glow which suits bedrooms, I think. I have seen 3W CFLs advertised in China, but not seen any for sale here. Anyone know of any lower power CFL lights. I reckon someone must produce 2W or even 1W bulbs somewhere....

There's a lot of cheap cfl's around with a very short life. This has been an advert by the Osram/Philips global lighting monopoly but there's a fair bit of truth in it.

the bad thing about this  BLT website is quite expensive, theyre arent many options when fitting require a ses lamp.

glad to see more manufacturers making good quality products at  reasonable prices

We have a 1W cfl plug in night light in our hallway, so we can see our way to the bathroom.  Has a switch on it to turn on/off, available in white, blue, green or yellow.  Got it from the chinese bazaar in our local(ish) town.  1 euro.

Its probably not a cfl but a led fitting.

Definitely a cfl, I took the lens off to have a look when I bought it. The lens is tinted to give the colour choice.

Any chance of uploading a pic? I know it's sad, but I'd like to see a 1W CFL
