I heard somewhere that there is a design of wind generator which is built in to ridge tiles, I have tried to search for this both here on on the net, but could only find a general paper which discussed their application.
Do these thing exist? if so where do you get them and has anyone had any experience of them?

A bit like Unicorns - fabled! Wink
I really haven't the first clue why people faff about trying to get power from the wind on a roof..........noone has yet got over the noise/vibration problem, and turbulence kills any performance stone dead! Grin

A search finds them easily.       However with wind generators, apart from a suitable site, the swept area ny the blades  is the most important factor and it would be hard to even reach one square metre with these.

Do you mean this?  http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2007007103

I think it would generate an almost infinitesimal amount of power.

I've no idea - but someone has spent large amounts of good money to lodge the patent. If only the energy that went into creating the patents could be tapped...

Aside from this, though, there are many examples of wind turbines integrated into building fabric with various structures acting as concentrators for the wind. I don't think many have been successful.

yes they do indeedy,
i saw several barrel like structures located on the ridge of a house, they were supposed to be dishing out 1kv ,the guy won an award for his design,(must be about a year ago i saw this),he was austrialian, the thing was the size of a 45gallon barrell and lay longways right on top of the ridge, some were blue and some were grey but obviously they were a factory job.however i would, ent like to be trying to sleep on a stormy night when one of those decided to break its mountings and take off,
